When you're a part of DePaul, you're a part of an ever-expanding network
with deep roots in the Chicago community. Relationships forged through
DePaul's commitment to social engagement and to business excellence
create many opportunities for students to become involved in the vibrant
life of a major urban area.
"Discover
Chicago" consists of one week immersed in the city examining a chosen
topic and seven weeks of traditional course work coupled with further
field experiences. The program acquaints first-year students with the
metropolitan community, its neighborhoods, cultures, people, institutions,
organizations and issues. Students may choose from a variety of themes
that focus on the arts, politics, environmental studies, history or
other areas.
DePaul's unique Community
Based Service Learning program provides students with both an academic
framework and real-life service settings to address today's social challenges.
As students progress through the university, they may move up a "ladder
of engagement" in community service.
Students also have opportunities to gain business experience through
DePaul links with small and large enterprises, or commerce organizations. Students may be involved in consulting
on live projects, such as a marketing study or the development of a
business plan.
From the Loop Campus in the heart of the city and the urban neighborhood
of the Lincoln Park Campus to the suburban campuses, DePaul offers a
range of campus community resources.
