Here at DePaul, diversity is one of our greatest
resources. Each of our students, faculty and staff members bring different
talents, skills, and ideas that help build and strengthen the DePaul
community. Collectively, we enrich the academic environment with a wide
range of experiences and perspectives.
A theater major from Canada. A computer science professor from Nigeria.
An accounting major from Korea. A law professor from Egypt. A music
major from Costa Rica. You'll notice a wide diversity in religious,
geographical, ethnic and cultural backgrounds of the student body and
faculty here.
Based only on those who report ethnicity in 2008, minority students make up approximately 27 percent of the most recent freshman
class. Nearly 13 percent of the class is Hispanic/Latino, eight percent
is Asian/Pacific Islander and five percent is African-American.
And in keeping with DePaul's mission to expand access to education,
approximately 30 percent of our 2008 freshman class are from the first generation
in their family to attend college.
These are just a few of the reasons The Princeton Review, in its annual survey of the best colleges and universities in the United States, ranked DePaul among the nation's top 10 in the "Diverse Student Population" category for six consecutive years.
